Costume
Designer/Wardrobe Stylist Nicole Beckett (IATSE 892) began designing at age six
when her mother taught her to sew.
In her teens, her grandmother gave her a closet full of
vintage clothes from her own youth. This gift was the catalyst for creativity and Nicole began
experimenting with styles, fabrics and colors of past and
present decades. Since
then, she has continued to develop as a Designer &
Stylist, working in
Film, Television, Print and Personal Styling.
As of late, Nicole has costumed
a variety of projects for Director/Actor Robert Townsend
including two seasons of the Drama Diary of a Single Mom
(Monica Calhoun, Valery Ortiz, Janice
Lynde, Billy Dee
Williams, Richard Roundtree, Leon).
Her
commercial
experience includes Costume Design for Oscar Meyer, Comcast, Compass Bank,
Orbitz and Honda where Nicole was able to combine her
styling skills with her signature zany costume design. Such
costumes ranged from Mexican Wrestlers to gigantic golf ball
costumes.
She
is also the Costume Designer for Director/Actor
Andy Dick’s feature film Danny Roane: First Time Director
(Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Mo Collins) aired on Comedy Central in late 2007.
This project encompassed a wide range of costumes, from stylized green screen suits
to giant snake costumes that she constructed herself.
Nicole
also had the opportunity to display her craft in front of the
camera in two fashion makeover television pilots Off the
Hanger…Into Style and Closet Raiders.
With
over ten years of experience in the apparel and wardrobe
arena, Nicole has a wide range of capabilities. From
high fashion shoots to comedy spoofs, she has an uncanny
ability to translate a Director's vision into reality through
the language of costuming.
After
graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a BS
in Advertising, Nicole moved to New York to pursue a career in
the fashion industry. After
attending 7th on Sixth, Nicole co-founded a
ready-to-wear apparel company Agogo and launched eight
ready-to-wear collections in five years, selling to over 200
boutiques internationally. During those
years she moved the company to Hollywood and provides wardrobe
and styling for fashion shoots and film.
Her
designs have been worn by recording artist Mya and have been
associated with Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Osborne and
Ashlee Simpson and have been featured in publications
including Cosmopolitan, Twist, J-14, Budget living, Bust,
The Los Angeles Times, The New York Daily News, California
Apparel News, 5280 Magazine and TeenPeople.com and
have been featured on MTV and MTV Latin.
